Absecon Police Seek Police Impersonator

A man impersonating a police officer stopped a Brigantine female and searched her car on Monday, Jan. 7.

The Absecon Police Department requests the public's help in its search for a man who posed as a police officer during a traffic stop Monday night, Jan. 7, Absecon Police said.

A 24-year-old female reported that her car was stopped at 10:45 Monday night on Route 30 and Turner Avenue by a man identifying himself as a police officer, police said. She was returning to Brigantine when she said she was pulled over by a car that had a dashboard emergency light. She couldn't provide further details on the vehicle, except to say it was a car and not an SUV, police said.

The man was wearing a Navy blue shirt that looked like a policeman's uniform's shirt. The female described him as clean shaven, 6-feet-tall with blonde hair and a thin build.

The man told the female he was working a detail in the area and requested to search her car, police said. She allowed him to, and after he searched the car, he left down Route 30, police said.

A composite sketch of the suspect is attached to the story.

If anyone recognizes the suspect from the sketch they are asked to contact the Absecon Police Department at 609-641-0667 ext. 216 or Crime Stoppers at (609)652-1234. Det. C. L. Gadd is investigating this case.

Stupid move on her part. Do not stop for any car unless its an actual police car.

If I am ever stopped by a police officer the first thing I will do is call the police department to verify the person stopping me is actually a police officer.
