Absegami to Face Toms River North in Boys' Basketball Playoffs

The Braves were seeded 13th in the tournament, which begins Feb. 25.

The Absegami High School boys' basketball team is seeded 13th in the NJSIAA South Jersey Group IV playoffs, which begin Monday afternoon, Feb. 25.

The Braves will visit No. 4 Toms River North in a first round playoff game at 4 p.m.

The winner of that game will play the winner of the game between No. 5 Eastern Regional and No. 12 Cherokee in a quarterfinal matchup on Feb. 27.

The 16-team bracket was unveiled by the NJSIAA on Friday.

Absegami is 7-10 overall this season. Its game against Vineland scheduled for Friday night was postponed due to weather.

The Braves last won on Jan. 25, when they defeated district rival Cedar Creek, 52-47. Absegami has since lost three in a row.

On Wednesday, Vladimir Shustov signed to play basketball at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), the first basketball player from Absegami to commit to a Division 1 school since Andrew Keister committed to play for Holy Cross in 2007.

Atlantic City is the No. 1 overall seed, and will host No. 16 Toms River South in the first round. The winner of that game plays the winner of the game between No. 8 Southern Regional and No. 9 Williamstown.

The No. 2 overall seed went to Lenape. The Indians will host No. 15 Washington Township, with the winner to meet either No. 7 Triton or No. 10 Egg Harbor Township. 

Shawnee was seeded third and will host No. 14 Cherry Hill West in the first round. The winner of that game plays the winner of the game between No. 6 Cherry Hill East and No. 11 Clearview.

The semifinals take place March 1, with the championship game set for Monday, March 4.
