Burlington County Man Sentenced to 25 Years for Robbery, Sexual Assault at Tropicana
Brent Johnson was found guilty of the crime in August.
A 22-year-old Burlington County man was sentenced to 25 years in prison for robbery and sexual assault at the Tropicana in May of last year, acting Atlantic County Prosecutor James P. McClain said Monday night, Dec. 3.
Brent Johnson, of Burlington, allegedly robbed a Freehold man and woman, and sexually assaulted the woman in a parking garage at the Tropicana Casino on May 28, 2011, McClain said.
On Aug. 28 of this year, Johnson and two co-defendants were found guilty of the crime, McClain said. The co-defendants were Brandon Cooper, 22, of Beverly, and Leon Peterson, 19, of Lumberton, McClain said. All three were found guilty of first degree robbery and aggravated sexual assault, McClain said.
The crime allegedly took place at 4 a.m. on May 28, 2011, McClain said. Atlantic City Police responded to the scene, and were told by security that two men had just fled the scene and were inside an elevator, McClain said.
Police captured Johnson and Cooper as they were stepping off the elevator, McClain said. Johnson was found to have a BB gun tucked into his waistband, McClain said.
Peterson was arrested elsewhere in the casino, McClain said.
The man was said to have been found bleeding after being punched and kicked in the face during the robbery, McClain said. He had been separated from the woman, who was taken by the three defendants, according to McClain.
