Coast Guard Rescues Fisherman Off Atlantic City
Coast Guard released video of the incident on Thursday.
A video released by the Coast Guard on Thursday shows a man being lifted by cable from a fishing vessel 57 miles east of Atlantic City, after the man had suffered from heart attack symptoms.
According to a Coast Guard press release, a Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City helicopter crew was dispatched to medevac the 40-year-old man, who was hoisted into the helicopter and transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's Mainland Campus.
"After we arrived at the hospital, I signaled to the flight crew that it was safe for them to exit the aircraft with the patient by giving them a thumbs up, which the patient saw and returned," said Lt. Jay Kircher, an Air Station Atlantic City helicopter pilot.
"After witnessing how much pain he was in, seeing him give me the thumbs up showed me his appreciation for our crew's efforts and relief that he was about to get the medical help he needed."
