Galloway Man Indicted on 18 Counts of Identity Theft

A 20-year-old Galloway Township man who was stealing the identities of customers at the Egg Harbor City liquor store in which he was employed was indicted by an Atlantic County grand jury on 18 counts of identity theft on Thursday, July 28, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office announced on Friday.

was obtaining credit card information from patrons at the Harbor Liquors, where he was employed and using that information to purchase items from stores in the county and sell them on eBay.

He was indicted on third and fourth-degree counts, including forgery, uttering, and theft by deception, said Assistant Prosecutor Erika Halayko, who presented the case to the grand jury.

On May 4 of this year, Wayne Camp entered Harbor Liquors, where Joshi was employed, to make a purchase. He used his credit card, and Joshi swiped it twice, the second time being to a skimming device he had under the counter.

Joshi then uploaded the skimmed information to his laptop, Halayko said.

Joshi then erased his information of his own credit card, replacing it with the skimmed information. He then used the card to make purchases at stores throughout the county, including the K-Mart Shopping Plaza in Pleasantville and Pep Boys in Egg Harbor Township.

Halayko said he then took those purchased products and sold them on ebay.

The Egg Harbor City Police Department handled the arrest at the time, and said the owners at Harbor Liquors were unaware of Joshi’s actions.

A third-degree crime carries with it a maximum prison term of five years and a fine of $15,000. A fourth-degree crime carries with it a maximum sentence of 18 months and $10,000 fine.
