Galloway Middle School Band Earns Silver at Jazz Festival

Several spring concerts are also upcoming.

 

The Galloway Township Middle School Jazz Band was one of four middle school bands to compete in the Jazz Festival held at Mainland Regional High School Feb. 16. The GTMS band earned itself a Silver rating overall.

On Monday night, May 14, members of the jazz band received another honor: they were recognized by the Galloway Township School District Board of Education at its meeting at the middle school.

"We were very fortunate to get silver rating," Band Director John Dondero said, noting that the band also earned several captions in gold.

Those honored were Deanna Bigio, Jewel Foster, Sean Leoben, Luis Ozoria, Kate Rowland, Elizabeth Ryu, Matt Sato and Tiffany Vibora.

"We also got best solo award. That award went to Maybelle Daclan,” Dondero said.

The school's rhythm section had also won best section. Those members include Juliani Bonilla, Marybelle Daclan, Emily Ip, Michael Moore, Prashit Parikh and Jack Ujvary.

Meanwhile, the Galloway School District has several spring concerts upcoming. The schedule is as follows:

May 15

7 p.m. Arthur Rann Elementary School

7 p.m. Smithville Elementary School Chorus

May 17

6:30 p.m. Roland Rogers Elementary School. The school concert will be preceded by an expo which will begin at 5:30 p.m.

May 22

7 p.m. Reeds Road Elementary School

7 p.m. Smithville  School Band Concert

May 30

7 p.m. Galloway Township Middle School
