Galloway Township Collects 26,000 Pounds of Items For Sandy Victims
Community Services is now holding a new toy drive for children impacted by Sandy.
According to Galloway Township Deputy Director of Public Works Office of Community Services Beth Stasuk, the fire departments collected 26,000 pounds worth of donations in the latest donation drive for victims of Superstorm Sandy.
Items collected included winter outerwear, shoe gift cards, non-perishable food or gift cards, all sizes of diapers, toilet paper, tissues, and paper towels, among other items.
“We opened up all the fire halls, and the program ended Friday,” Stasuk said at the council meeting on Tuesday night, Nov. 27. “Tim McKenna made the final delivery to the county on his own time on Friday.”
She recognized the Smithville Inn, W.L. Goodfellows and Company and J.D.’s Pub and Grille for donating food to the volunteers. At the same time, council recognized her for her efforts.
“You’re always there when the township needs you,” Mayor Don Purdy said. “You’re always helping. You bring the hometown spirit to Galloway.”
With one donation drive down, another one has popped up to take its place, as the township is now collecting new unwrapped toys for children who were victims of the storm. The toy drive is ongoing through Friday, Dec. 14.
Residents are asked to drop off new, unwrapped toys to Galloway Community Services at 636 South New York Road, across from Biscayne Avenue near the Absecon border.
Toys will be accepted Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Extended dropoff hours until 6 p.m. will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 28, Thursday, Dec. 6 and Thursday, Dec. 13.

Any reason why the Galloway Patch did NOT mention the Galloway Elks Lodge for efforts and donations to various organizations? I was at the meeting and a man from the Elks said they donated truck loads of supplies, food and clothing also. If your going to report information from the township meeting and thank local businesses EVERYONE should be included! He also mentioned they had a 10 x 30 storage bin DONATED by a local business on RT 9 filled twice. Poor reporting.
