Get a 'Taste' of Galloway Township Businesses on Dec. 9
The inaugural event will coincide with Santa Claus's arrival in Smithville.
Although it’s called “A Taste of Galloway,” Ava Holly Lewis would rather you think of it as the “Flavors of Galloway.”
That’s how she put it Tuesday morning, Nov. 28 when she convened with a few of the inaugural event’s participants at the Colonial Inn in Historic Smithville.
The event, which takes place Friday, Dec. 9 prior to Santa Claus’s arrival in the village, will be a showcase for Galloway Township businesses. At this point, 16 businesses are scheduled to be set up on the Village Greene around 5:30 p.m. Santa is scheduled to arrive about an hour later, at 6:30 p.m.
The event is sponsored by the Galloway Township Business Association in cooperation with Historic Smithville’s Village Greene. All Galloway businesses and nonprofits have been invited to participate in the free event.
Businesses already scheduled to participate include:
- The Galloway Township Business Association;
- The Galloway Women’s Club;
- Go Green Galloway;
- The Press of Atlantic City;
- The Mom’s Club;
- Smithville All Pro Realtors;
- Highland Swim Club;
- LiteRock 96.9 WFPG;
- The Unitarian Church;
- Laser Skin Wellness Center;
- PNC Bank;
- eeFuerst Foundation for Brain Cancer Research;
- Galloway Nutrition;
- Ocean City Home Bank;
- Galloway Patch; and
- Royal Suites.
Lewis, who runs the eeFuerst Foundation for Brain Cancer Research and is a member of the Business Association, discussed other possible businesses to include at Tuesday morning’s meeting with other Business Association members.
The event is a child-friendly event, as it is geared toward families who will be waiting for a chance to have their child meet Santa Claus.
Wendie Fitzgerald, co-owner of the Village Greene and a supporter of the event along with Galloway Township Deputy Director of Public Works Beth Stasuk, said the village expects about 90 families to descend upon Smithville to see Santa Clause, who will be set up in a cottage in the village along with Mrs. Clause.
“The Taste of Galloway is about getting a taste of all the different business in Galloway,” Lewis said.
There is no food involved, although live music, cookie decorating and children’s activities were all among the possibilities discussed. LiteRock 96.9 will play Christmas music in the background, and Lewis and Steve Fiedler are arranging for live music, including carolers from the Unitarian Church.
Santa Clause is scheduled to arrive in Smithville that night, will visit Tutu Posh Boutique on Saturday morning, Dec. 10 at 11 a.m., and will have breakfast with children in the community Sunday morning, Dec. 11 at Fred and Ethel’s at 9 a.m.
