Residents lost power for a few hours following the accident.
Southbound lanes on Route 9 were closed for 90 minutes on Saturday night, following an accident around 9 p.m. that left Habib Maqba, 76, of Galloway, hospitalized with internal injuries, according to a press release from the Galloway Township Police Department.
Maqba's Hyundai Santa Fe was headed north on Route 9 in the area of Brook Lane when the car left the road and struck a utility pole, hit an embankment and overturned, the report said.
Maqba was extricated from the vehicle by the Oceanville and Bayview Fire Departments, then transferred to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center by the Galloway Township Ambulance Squad, the release said.
The utility pole was shattered and residents in the area lost power, but Atlantic City Electric was on the scene to restore service on Saturday night, according to the release.
