More than $8,000 was raised on Sunday, Aug. 12 for AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's fourth annual Pike-a-thon, according to Public Relations Specialist Frank Tedesco of AtlantiCare.

The event has raised almost $40,000 since 2009 and all of the monies are used to benefit the hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Center for Childbirth at the hospital system's Mainland Campus, Tedesco said.

Approximately 200 people attended this year's event, according to an AtlantiCare press release.

“The Pike-a-thon was a wonderful experience. I saw first hand the many caring people who participated in the event to ensure babies in our NICU benefit from their time and generosity,” said Laurie Trongone, clinical director of the ARMC Center for Childbirth. “We thank the Mainland Auxiliary for their hard work in raising funds that benefit our tiniest patients. We are very grateful.”

The motorcycle ride started at Atlantic County Harley Davidson in Galloway, with more than 100 bikers taking a scenic route through the Pine Barrens and ending a luncheon at Billy's Oak Grove in Egg Harbor City, the release said.
