Great Creek and Pitney Roads Project Part of Development Talk in Galloway
A banquet hall that was previously discussed as the possible site for a gentleman's club is also up for sale.
A new development is on its way to Great Creek and Pitney roads, and the sale of a restaurant along the White Horse Pike seems to have put an end to a proposed gentleman’s club in the township.
The Great Creek and Pitney roads project calls for the development of six acres of land, Deputy Mayor Tony Coppola said. Four corners in that area would be developed, and one corner would be set up for a convenience restaurant If some kind, Coppola said.
“You have the church on one corner, the Pitney Pub on another corner, the car wash and then there’s an undeveloped piece of land,” Coppola said.
The plans have already been approved, but the developers made adjustments based on resident feedback they encountered when they went before the Planning Board two weeks ago, including assuring the distance between the development’s fencing and the residents was acceptable for both sides.
“Some people had concerns, but they were able to work them out,” Coppola said. “It was a great example of how two sides can work well together in the community when each side gives a little bit.”
One of the issues centered on the marshy area by Deer Creek Road, according to Coppola. The developer agreed to incorporate capacity for storm water management in the area that would allow it to be drier, Coppola said.
“It’s a large parcel that went through the Planning Board and the sides were able to come to a good agreement,” Mayor Don Purdy said. “It will be done in three phases. It will bring in more ratables and more relief. It looks promising.”
Additionally, Christina’s Bar and Restaurant has been put up for a quick sale. The bar and restaurant is adjacent to the Vienna Inn Banquet Hall, and both were owned by Perry Stamelos.
Last summer, Stamelos was set to bring a gentleman’s club to the banquet hall, but that proposal was met by a backlash from residents throughout the town, including those who live across the street from that site. Residents threatened to boycott Stamelos’s businesses, which included the Galloway Diner.
The Galloway Diner is now under new management. It has been temporarily closed and will reopen as the Star Diner.
The gentleman’s club never came to fruition.
“I drive around Galloway and I’m encouraged by everything that I see,” Coppola said.
During a council meeting on Oct. 9, Coppola noted that the Wawa on Pitney Road was beginning to install gas pumps.
Mayor Don Purdy also referenced two companies that are looking at “real estate” in the township and two additional developers are looking at bringing in “large projects,” but couldn’t name the companies or projects because it was too early in the process.

I recently moved to Galloway , and if there are any drive-through restaurants in the township, I've yet to find them. I have one or two very young children in the car with me when I'm out, and we patronize drive-throughs several times a week as it's difficult to haul the kids in and out of the car and restaurants. Unfortunately, that means my money, along with that of other Galloway residents I'm sure, is going to Absecon and EHT rather than our own township. I'd much prefer to support businesses in my own community.

The whole proposal to put a ti**y bar in western Germania in todays economy was one of the most half baked ideas I've heard in a long time. All it accomplished was to get a people upset. Good riddance!

How come Purdy & Copolla arn't touting the Jersey Shore Federal Credit Union that is being built right next to Galloway Complex?...Is it because that this "Credit Union" is a non profit & they won't have to pay taxes?...Is that the kind of development Galloway wants?...It's an insult to every taxpayer to have a Not For Profit Bank being built here. Jersey Shore claims they started with $65 in 1963...now have over 100 mil in assets...because they don't pay taxes! Did Purdy & Copolla forget about this project?....Oh & they get to cut down a zillion trees to add to their 100 mil assets. Disgusting! ...They must be building more than 1 little office there....that's a huge piece of property on 8 th & Jim Leeds.

Credit unions do pay real estate and property taxes. They are only exempt from federal taxation.

Betsy...the only drive through in Galloway Twp is Barista's Coffee House. As far as I'm concerned the grease trap fast food crap can stay out of Galloway. Your kids are better off.

No fast food! What's next, no 16 ounce drinks that contain sugar? How about we shut down all the Galloway pizza and cheese steak shops while we're at it. I'll stop while I'm on a roll (pun intended).

A Not for Profit Jersey Shore Federal Credit Union...They are really a Non-Profit Bank...Confused?...It's like saying your a skinny fat person. A bank with over 100 mil in assets & they claim they are Non - Profit. Do Non Profit Churches & Hospitals pay taxes?...Nope!...Non Profit Stockton?...Nope!....I have no reason to believe that Jersey Shore will pay taxes either. Doesn't it seem odd that Purdy & Coplolla are crowing about some new fast food place...but they are not saying a word about this project?....I believe property is over 4 acres....so they are gonna build more there than a little old credit union.

Assets are not profits. Assets are property, buildings, equipment, and whatever else is required to operate the credit union.

The credit union pays property taxes. They have some federal exemptions but not property taxes.

Typical Galloway green comments. No clue! Exemption is on federal level not property tax. Stockton does pay for the commercial business and residences they own under their non profit arm. The hospital spurred all if the professional office building you see on Jimmie Leeds and Chris gaupp which represent the lions share of the townships tax base. Looks like keep Galloway green has been fact checked!

Don G ( Mr Fact Checker).....Does Stockton pay taxes on Seaview? ...Nope!....Show me all these facts that you claim to know. Is there some sort of "Special" tax deal with Jersey Shore Federal Credit Union?....Purdy & Co arn't saying a word about this project which has been underway for 3 weeks. Show me all your facts...or should I just trust your word?....lol

Remains to be seen if they pay any taxes. Apparently the property is not listed as Jersey Shore Federal Credit Union with the County Clerk. Gee....Do you think they use multiple names & multiple Non Profit Corporations? Why isn't Purdy bragging about this project?....They must be going to build far more than a little ole credit union office on 4 acres. Not 1 bit of news on this secretive Galloway Project...just what this council likes!
