The Asbury Park boardwalk looked more like the set of "The Walking Dead" on Saturday as thousands of people gathered for the New Jersey Zombie Walk.

The fifth annual event saw people come out dressed as the undead as they took a ghoulish walk along the boardwalk in Asbury before a huge crowd.

Historic Smithville and the Village Greene will host its second Zombie Walk, courtesy the Underground, in about three weeks. Zombies invade Galloway Oct. 28, and Underground co-owner Mike Spagnola is hoping for a few hundred zombies this year after the success their walk had last year.

According to Asbury Park's Zombie Walk Facebook page, more than 15,000 people participated in the walk and more than 5,000 came as spectators. The previous record for the world's largest gathering of zombies, according to Guinness World Records, was just over 4,000 in Asbury Park in 2010, making this weekend's event the most successful zombie walk in history.

Makeup artists were on hand to transform people into zombies, while others did their own makeup and showed up ready for an afternoon of horror.

Robert Lisiesky was on hand to snap some photos of the walk.
