UPDATED: Jim McElwee to be Sworn Into Council Tonight
According to Township Clerk TC Kay, results have been certified.
According to Galloway Township Clerk TC Kay, the Atlantic County Board of Elections has certified the results from the Nov. 6 election, and Jim McElwee will be sworn in as the newest member of Galloway Council. He will be sworn in prior to the council meeting tonight, Nov. 27, 6:30 p.m., at the municipal complex.
McElwee defeated John Mooney by an unofficial vote count of 6,964-6,265 in the Nov. 6 election, but the certification of results was delayed due to disruptions in the voting process, caused by Superstorm Sandy.
According to Kay, on Tuesday afternoon, she received a call from the Board of Elections stating that results had been certified. The township had not yet received official numbers Tuesday afternoon.
McElwee will be sworn into council immediately, as he is filling an unexpired term. The seat became available when Dennis Kleiner resigned from council in June, and expires next year.
Many voters were displaced and filled out provisional ballots, many in municipalities that weren't their hometowns. Galloway Township voting locations distributed their fair share of provisional ballots, including to voters displaced from New York.
