Roland Rogers Students Battle Violence and Vandalism
Contest award winners are recognized by the community
One girl read a poem about not having violence in school.
One boy's rap begged the question, "What's the point of being mean?"
And one class made it clear, "Violence is not cool, don't bring it into our school."
The class won an award, and so did many others in this year's Violence and Vandalism contest at Roland Rogers Elementary School.
There were 10 categories aimed at helping kids fight against violence in their school. The top three place winners in nine categories and the winning class in Slogan Contest were recognized at Monday night's Galloway Township Board of Education meeting. The school's staff chose the winners.
"We like to see the students involved and promoting a safe environment," Galloway Township Superintendent Annette Giaquinto said. "We're very proud of the various talents."
Tracey Hochstrasser's third grade class came up with the winning slogan.
Coy Lewis, the Sixth Grade Rap/Song winner performed his rap, while Elizabeth Glass, the second place finisher in the Fifth Grade Poem Contest, read her poem in front of the assembled board, parents and press Monday night.
