Chrissie McColl's son, John, shares a birthday with Dr. Seuss.

In fact, the Smithville School second-grader was born on Dr. Seuss' 100th birthday. McColl turned 8 years old on Friday, March 2.

As a second-grader, McColl was not part of the Smtihville School kindergarten class' celebration of Read Across America Friday morning in the school's cafeteria. His mother and his sister, Mia, were on hand, however. It was actually Chrissie McColl's idea to bring this particular event to the Smithville School.

Friday's event was a series of activities based on Dr. Seuss books, including The Cat in the Hat; Horton Hatches the Egg; Oh, the Places You'll Go!; Hop on Pop and One Fish, Two Fish, Three, Four, Five Fish.

John McColl was able to be part of the celebration two years ago, when he was at the Assumption Regional Catholic School. Chrissie McColl brought the event to that school for two years, before her son transferred to Smithville.

Chrissie McColl got the idea when she was working as a kindergarten teacher in Atlantic City. She was previously a teacher in Watchung.
