Special Meeting to Discuss Council Vacancy to be Held Thursday
An appointment is expected be made for the seat left vacant when Dennis Kleiner resigned.
Galloway Township Council will hold a special meeting Thursday night to discuss the vacancies on council and in the position of solicitor, the township announced Monday afternoon, July 9.
The meeting commences Thursday night, July 12 at 6 p.m. at the municipal complex.
According to a notice issued by the township on Monday, council will meet to discuss and appoint a councilman to fill the position left vacant when Dennis Kleiner resigned on June 25. According to Kleiner, he resigned because he was moving out of the township.
The Atlantic County Republican Committee has until Tuesday, July 10 to submit the names of three replacements to council. Council then selects from those three names, and whoever is selected remains in place until a special election can be held in November.
An interview will also be conducted to fill the position of solicitor, left open when Michael Blee was nominated by Gov. Chris Christie to the State Superior Court. At the council meeting on June 19, a committee made up of Mayor Don Purdy, Deputy Mayor Tony Coppola and Councilman Brian Tyrrell was appointed to lead the search for a new solicitor, and an advertisement for the position was recently posted on the township's website.
A meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 10. The agenda posted by the township on its website didn't mention either of these matters.
