Absecon Memorial Day Parade Takes Place May 26

The Absegami High School marching band will participate in this year's parade.

The Absecon Memorial Day Parade takes place May 26 at 9:30 a.m., beginning at the American Legion Post #28. It will then turn down New Jersey Avenue to Shore Road and onto Church Street, where it will pass the United Methodist and Presbyterian cemeteries on its way to Veterans Park.  Once there, a host of respectful offerings will take place.

Absecon’s VFW Post 9462 Honor Guard (#1 in the State of New Jersey) and the American Legion Post 28 will lead the parade.  This year’s Grand Marshall is Bob Knoeble, a World War II Veteran, 70th Tank Division.  He will be joined by local dignitaries.

The Veterans Posts and Absecon’s Community Affairs Committee have scheduled a number of special contributions. Marching bands from Absegami and Pleasantville high schools will perform.

The Mainland Baptist Church will have a patriotic float, with many of their members participating as in previous years. Absecon’s Fire trucks and Emergency Management Vehicles will be present, as well as members of the Police Department.

Some local organizations will be riding in cars displaying their banners and sharing treats.  Also, the local Dare Group will be passing out small flags to the spectators along the parade route, and there will be a Patriotic Bike Contest for the youngsters.
