Visitors to Atlantic City beaches can enjoy the 2012 season without paying for a beach badge.
However, permits are required for group activities.
Surfing is allowed on the following designated beaches: Crystal Beach at New Hampshire Avenue; Delaware Avenue Beach; and Downtown Beach at Raleigh Avenue. Surfing lessons are available, and lifeguards are not available at surfing beaches. Surfers are advised not to surf alone.
Kayaking and windsurfing are allowed on the Jackson Avenue beach, although no lifeguards are on hand and you must bring your own equipment. It is a no-bathing zone.
Boogie boards and bodysurfing are allowed on any bathing beach, depending on weather conditions. All boogie boards must have a leash.
Fishing takes place on the jetties along Oriental/Maine Avenue Boardwalk and the inlet of the boardwalk. Fishing licenses are not required for salt water fishing, and fishing is not allowed on bathing beaches when lifeguards are on duty, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Grilling is allowed only on Memorial Day, the Fourth of July and Labor Day. Grills must be charcoal briquettes. No gas grills or open flames are allowed.
Metal detectors are allowed on the beach at any time, and bike riding is allowed on the boardwalk between 6:30 a.m. and 10 a.m.
