Children's Art Classes: Preschool Ages 3-5

Preregistration is required a minimum of 1 week in advance

$7 per class for any 4 or more classes.

Preschool children must be accompanied by an adult (who attends free). Individualized classes can be organized by prior arrangement.

September 22 – Colorful Kandinsky: Kandinsky was one of the most notable abstract artists of the twentieth century who experimented with color and shapes to create bold patterns. Learn about complementary colors and create vibrant layered abstract artwork.

October 20 – Color Farm: Make bright, colorful, geometric farm animals based on the illustrations by Lois Ehlert. Form bold images with geometric cutouts combining simple shapes to form images of animals.

November 10 – Arcimboldo Printed Self Portrait: Silly orange wedge smiles and corn cob hair-- fruits and vegetables become faces in these stamped self portraits inspired by Giuseppe Arcimboldo.

December 1 – Adire Cloth - Monoprints: Adire is the term for indigo dyed cloth produced by the Yoruba women of southwestern Nigeria. Simple, bold geometric designs will be used to create your own printing blocks and make an artsy bandanna with individual stamped images. Be part of a group printed wall hanging.

January 5 – Eric Carle Dragon Collage Paintings: In honor of the Chinese year of the dragon and based on the works of Eric Carle, create fantastical beasts spouting flames and preening their scales. With tons of texture, these dragons will be conjured up with a mixture of collage and paint.

February 2 – Wee Whimsical Wooden Wildlife: Make wild and wonderful mini animals from layered flat wooden shapes. Position the parts to add depth to the creatures and finish them with colorful painted details.

March 1 – Clay- Niki de Saint Phalle: Dig your fingers into this clay project and learn about the playful and imaginative sculptures of French artist Niki de Saint Phalle.

April 5 – Friendly Robots: In honor of Earth Day, discover green power with recycled art materials! Build a friendly robot sculpture and print a jazzy background using recycled materials to create texture and pattern prints. May 10 – Mondrian Tape Paintings: Inspired by the work of Piet Mondrian, a Dutch abstract painter and co-founder of the "De Stijl" art movement, we'll use tape and paint to achieve surprising results.
