Davaluri was the first contestant of Indian descent to take the crown home Sunday night. Her platform was Celebrating Diversity through Cultural Competency, but her victory resulted in a slew of stereotypes flying through the Twitter universe, including references to Indians and Arabs, according to the report.
Vail was voted America’s Choice for Miss America by ABC viewers prior to the start of the competition. She is the blonde haired, blue eyed member of the military who has tattoos and enjoys hunting.
There were multiple responses defending Davaluri, classifying attacks against her as "racist,"and "ignorant."
One Twitter user posted that those criticizing her have embarrassed themselves, and Davaluri is "Miss America, not a Muslim or a terrorist."
