American Cancer Society spokesperson, breast cancer survivor and Oakcrest High School basketball standout Cathy Rush began her coaching career at Immaculata College in 1970, less than two years after graduating from West Chester University. She led the Immaculata Mighty Macs to three consecutive AIAW national championships beginning in 1972. The Rush-led Macs appeared in six straight final four appearances in her six seasons with the school, attaining a 149-15 record. Her stint at the small Catholic school for women lasted only seven seasons, but her footprint on the game of women's basketball is still evident. Rush is widely acknowledged for shining the national spotlight on women’s basketball and playing a crucial role in establishing scholarship money for female student-athletes. She was named AMF-Voit Coach of the Year in 1973 and 1974 for her efforts and her 1975 Immaculata team squared off against Maryland in the first ever nationally televised women's game.

Rush’s numerous awards and achievements include her induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008. She was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame in 2005. Rush was the recipient of the USBWA Pioneer Award in 1994. She also founded the Women’s Athletic Service, Inc.

Rush established Future Stars™, a summer camp program in Warminster, Pennsylvania, in 1971 to provide opportunities for girls to develop their skills and be exposed to college scholarships. More than 100,000 campers have taken advantage of the Future Stars™ experience over the last 40 years.

The success and longevity of the Future Stars™ program relies on a winning combination of individual instruction and team challenges held in a positive learning environment.

The Mighty Macs, a motion picture based on Rush and the Immaculata College Mighty Macs, opens in theaters October 21.
