Travel Restrictions on Atlantic and Cape May Barrier Islands, Including Ocean City, Lifted

Travel restrictions to three barrier islands in Atlantic County and eight in Cape May County, including Ocean City, have been lifted, Gov. Chris Christie announced on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 1.

In addition to Ocean City, restrictions were lifted on Wildwood, Wildwood Crest, North Wildwood, West Wildwood, Avalon, Stone Harbor and Sea Isle City in Cape May County. Restrictions were lifted on Brigantine, Margate and Longport  in Atlantic County.

The ban was lifted at the request of the Atlantic and Cape May County governments.

There is no access to Brigantine via the Atlantic City Expressway. Those wishing to return to the island must do so via Route 30.

Atlantic City and Ventnor remain under the mandatory evacuation order at the request of those municipalities' local officials, according to the governor's office. Access continues to be restricted until public safety and public health concerns are resolved, according to the governor's office.

Brigantine, Margate and Longport will continue to operate under locally imposed curfews of 6 p.m.-6 a.m. until further notice, according to the governor's office. No such curfew was announced for the Cape May County islands.

Mandatory evacuation orders in other areas of the state remain in effect until further notice, the governor's office said.
