Pre-Hurricane Funtivites in Red Bank

Get out there and enjoy downtown Red Bank before Hurricane Sandy makes a scene.

Hurricane Sandy is bearing down on New Jersey coast, swirling around out there in the Atlantic while we all wait with bated breath to see if it's going to come knocking on our doors.

But that's still a couple of days away. And while people are out there buying up all of the perishable food items like bread and milk, why not spend your pre-hurricane Saturday having a good time in Red Bank?

Downtown this weekend there are lots of things to to and plenty of places to eat before Sandy makes a mess. In particular, two funtivities are going on this Saturday that are sure to please.

From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Fragile Earth is hosting a Red Bank Scavenger Hunt. You can pick up your list of items at one of five starting points - Sugarush, Ten Thousand Villages, Monmouth Street Emporium, Fragile Earth, and Frame to Please - and then search the town over to fill out your list.

According to Fragile Earth, which has a great and informative and also fun Facebook feed, more than 40 stores and restaurants throughout Red Bank are participating in the hunt. Lucky for you late sleepers and dilly-dallyers the hunt will not be time and everyone who completes their hunt is eligible for a prize.

Among the prizes you can win are jewelry from ICE, Alex and Ani, Rue Royale, Nat's Jewelers, U Gallery, Mustillo's and Esoterica. There are also gift cards for more than 40 Red Bank businesses and restaurants, free tickets to a show at Two River Theater and even day passes to YesterCades, among many other prizes.

Pre-registration is requested, so interested parties are asked to call 732-759-0016 or head to one of the five starting locales.

Speaking of YesterCades, the Broad Street arcade is hosting its one-year anniversary party this Saturday beginning at 4 p.m. For $20, visitors will get an all-day pass to the store good until 2 a.m. If you show up in costume, the all-day pass is only $15.

According to the anniversary's event listing, there will be free food, live entertainment, raffles and door prizes. And of course, access to more than 100 arcade and pinball machines, a pool table, and air hockey. Just show up!
