Star Diner Comes to Galloway

A Wildwood staple has come to Galloway Township.

Bill Stamos, who has been in the restaurant business for over 40 years, opened the Star Diner and Café on the White Horse Pike in Galloway three weeks ago. The Star Diner is located at 245 White Horse Pike, where Galloway Diner was once located. Galloway Diner closed earler this year.

Stamos adds the Galloway location to his Star Diner and Café location in Wildwood. Star Diner and Café has been in Wildwood for over 10 years, after Stamos owned the Dolphin Restaurant in Wildwood for over 30 years, and his family has been in the restaurant business for generations.

“I like the location” in Galloway, Stamos said. “When it’s winter in Wildwood, it gets slow.”

Many tourists use the White Horse Pike to access Atlantic City, meaning they’d have to pass by the Star Diner on their way to the casinos and the shore resort throughout the year.

“It was a big chance to take” opening a second diner, Stamos said. “But we thought we’d go for it. The whole family made the decision and we think we can do it.”

Stamos runs the two diners with his wife, Elaine, his daughter, Maria, and his sons, DeMitreos and Harry. One son and his daughter run the diner in Wildwood, and he, his wife and his other son run the Galloway location.

Stamos makes all the specials and there is a bakery on the premises, so most of the dishes are homemade.

The Star Diner’s early bird special is from 3-5:30 p.m., and the diner is open 7 a.m.-11 p.m., Sunday-Thursday, and 7 a.m.-midnight on Friday and Saturday, and offers breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The Star Diner now stands where Galloway Diner once stood. The building has been almost completely remodeled, Stamos said.

“We remodeled everything, the stairs the parking lot, the dining rooms, the kitchen and the bathrooms,” Stamos said. “We did about two months of work before we opened.”

He said business has been getting progressively better since they opened. He also said there are no plans to open any more locations.

“We like for people to get what they come here to get,” Stamos said. “We offer a clean place, good service and good food. We want to make sure people get what they come in here for.”
