AtlantiCare Donates AED to McGettigan's

The donation comes after the tavern donated one AED to Galloway Police in May.

After an automatic external defibrillator (AED) was used to following a heart attack in March, the owner of requested an AED for his establishment. On Tuesday, July 10, that request was fulfilled.

Representatives of the Heart Institute at presented McGettigan owners P.J. McGettigan and Anne C. McGettigan with an AED Tuesday morning, the medical center announced. It was P.J. who requested the device after his sister Maureen suffered a heart attack at the tavern in March. He did so through AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Heart Institute’s Heart Heroes’ matching funds program

were first on the scene and used an AED to restore Geary’s heart’s rhythm. Certain Galloway Police cars are equipped with AEDs, and the department received to replace their existing ones on June 26. AtlantiCare donated five of those devices to the police department after McGettigan donated the first one to the department in May.

In recognition of McGettigan’s recent donation to Galloway Township to assist in the township’s need for new AEDs for police vehicles, the Heart Heroes are covering half the cost and the Heart Institute is covering the matching funds, according to the medical center.

Heart Heroes is a volunteer group that raises funds for the Heart Institute at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center and the AtlantiCare Foundation to place AEDs in the community, the medical center said.

The Heart Heroes fund a portion of the AED and community groups and/or organizations provide the remaining funds, according to the medical center. Since the group’s inception it has placed nearly 70 AEDs throughout the community and throughout southern New Jersey, according to the medical center.
