Cards Help Identify Postpartem Depression

Several churches, businesses and schools in Galloway Township are working with the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) to help new mothers identify signs of postpartum depression (PPD) and other perinatal mood disorders.

Palm cards are being distributed at various locations throughout the township in an effort to help those with PPD who may not otherwise know they have it.

The "Speak Up When You're Down" palm cards, in both English and Spanish, lists signs of perinatal depression, including crying, feelings of hopelessness, guilt or worthlessness, and a lack of interest in family and friends.

The card also provides information on how to help the DHSS statewide Family Help Line. The line is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and the staff provides answers about perinatal mood disorders.
