Disaster Recovery Center to Benefit Hurricane Victims Opens in Atlantic County Tuesday

A FEMA/State Disaster Recovery Center will be opening in Atlantic County seven days a week until further notice beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 20.

The center will be located at the Hamilton Mall, at 4403 Black Horse Pike in Mays Landing, the county said on Monday. It will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day.

The purpose of the center is to provide face-to-face assistance to those who suffered damages and losses due to Hurricane Irene.

Those in need of assistance are urged to register before visiting the center. Registration can be done by calling FEMA's toll-free number at 1-800-621-3362, by calling 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) or by visiting disasterassistance.gov or m.fema.gov.

Those with access or functional needs who use a TTY can call 1-800-462-7585 or use 711 or Video Relay Service to call 1-800-621-3362. Both numbers are available from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The center will provide visitors with information about different types of state and federal disaster assistance; help completing applications for U.S. Small Business Administration low-interest disaster loans for homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes, and private nonprofit organizations; information about the status of applications for federal assistance; referrals to voluntary organizations with immediate, unmet needs; and information about cost-effective measures to reduce the impact of future disaster losses.

Food stamp benefits are already available to hurricane victims by visiting libraries throughout the county, including Galloway Township.
