Although the Christmas Concert at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Absecon on Dec. 16 is free, any donations collected that night will benefit the tutoring program of a Galloway Township teacher.
Roland Rogers Elementary School third-grade teacher Terry Dougherty, who won the Great American Teach-Off, a $10,000 grant, and a tour of the White House last year, will collect donations from the Christmas Concert at the church at 603 New Jersey Avenue in Absecon for her Free Children Military Tutoring Program, Dougherty said Saturday night, Dec. 1. The concert will begin at 3:30 p.m.
Dougherty works with children of military personnel who are constantly moving. She began tutoring the children four years ago. She works with children of parents in the Coast Guard, the National Guard and the Navy. In 2011, she earned a grant for the Galloway Township School District, and outlasted nine other teachers to win the inaugural Great American Teach-Off.
The concert will is Suite Inspiration's 18th annual Christmas Concert, and will feature music ranging from, the Andrews Sisters to Trans Siberian Orchestra, and from Andy Williams to television’s Glee, according to a press release issued by Suite Inspiration.
The Suite will feature guest harpist Barbara Gallagher, as well as a number of special friends from the group’s past and present, according to Suite Inspiration.
“It’s remarkably easy to put together a wide-ranging All-American Christmas program,” Judy Transue, the Suite’s producer, said in the release. “ We’ve included selections that reflect our Colonial heritage, pop music from the American Caribbean and Hawaii, DooWop and hard rock styles, as well as traditional and contemporary Christian pieces. A little something for just about everyone.”
According to Suite Inspiration there will be a sing along session, a visit from Santa Claus, and homemade refreshments after the concert.
