Galloway Township Veterans Day Event Guide

Veterans Day is Monday. Here are some things going on in the township that day.

Veterans Day is Sunday, Nov. 11, but the day will be honored throughout Galloway Township the following day, Monday, Nov. 12.

The township will be holding its own Veterans Day celebration, at 11 a.m. in the municipal complex.  Deputy Mayor Tony Coppola will serve as the Master of Ceremonies, and Jim Craine will sing the National Anthem.

Galloway Township Student Council President Matthew Sato and Vice President Chae Ryu will present the wreath, the Absegami High School Chorus will perform and Lt. Colonel Eric Davis of the U.S. Marine Corps will be the guest speaker.

Miss Teen Galloway 2012 Courtney Jack will read the poem, “The Missing Link,” by Dee Scerni. A luncheon will follow the ceremony in the historical room.

The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey will hold a celebration beginning at noon, and running through mid-afternoon. The college will hold a helicopter flyover and Coast Guard rescue boat display. There will be other activities and observances, as well as a roster of special guests.

Atlantic Cape Community College will hold its celebration at 12:30 in the J Building, Cafeteria B, on the Mays Landing campus. According to its website, the college will have guest speakers, including:

  • Mick Ebert, veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp
  • Allissa Cerzosimo, veteran of the U.S. Navy
  • Fr. Miles Barrett, chaplain for the U.S. Navy Corp

A Color Guard from the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office will present the colors, and guest vocalist, Mark Huff, will provide patriotic music, Atlantic Cape says.

The Smithville Barber Shoppe will give out free haircuts to veterans between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Hot dogs will be provided and the Colonial Inn will serve free drinks. The Absegami High School Band and a barbershop quartet will both perform.

On Sunday, Fred and Ethel's will offer free loaded fries and nachos for veterans with military IDs all day, and the Smithville Inn will offer free appetizers to veterans with military IDs with dinner.

Celina's Mulberry Market and Grill will offer 10 percent off coupons to veterans with military ID on Monday.
