Galloway Woman to Share Her Experiences in India

Debra Silver spent three weeks in the country last year, and will talk about her experiences during a Woman's Club event May 7.

Special Educator Debra Silver is bringing the flavor of India to Galloway Township on May 7.

Silver, a former member of the Galloway Township Women’s Club, spent three weeks in India last year, and will share her slide show at the as part of an event sponsored by the Women’s Club.

“India Through the Eyes of an American” commences at 6:30 p.m. on Monday night, May 7. In addition to the slideshow, there will be authentic Indian food and a Henna Artist, according to the Women’s Club.

Silver participated in the tour as part of the Global Exploration for Educators Organization (GEEO), according to the Women’s Club.

“After arriving at one of the most dazzling airports  I had ever seen, I was soon taken to my hotel  through the inner city, and realized this trip would test me in ways I had never been tested,” Silver said in a release from the Women’s Club. "I extended my trip by going on a jungle safari and to the Taj Mahal.  India is a vast, colorful, exotic culture. … It was an enriching adventure, profoundly affecting my life. I look forward to sharing my adventure with everyone." 

Silver went on to say that her trip inspired her to begin a new career, as a bereavement coordinator with Compassionate Care Hospice.

Galloway residents Kamini Naik and Kunj Dangarwala, along with a few of their friends, will be preparing the food for a tasting. Naik’s daughter, Akshati Naik, a student at the , will present a short slide show about the variety of regional Indian food, according to the Women’s Club.

"The Indian community could not be more enthused to share their culture," Galloway Township Women’s Club member and event chairperson Mary Crawford said. “Based on our previous cultural May events we expect a large turnout, so to insure we have enough seats  we are requiring  pre-registration.”

The Room is filling up-hope those who want to attend preregister. Should be fun event, food tastings, henna artist and raffle!
