Stockton College Closing As Hurricane Irene Approaches

The school joins the list of businesses that have closed and events that have been canceled.

The National Weather Service out of Mount Holly has officially issued a Hurricane Warning, as of Friday, Aug. 26 at 9:43 a.m., and Atlantic County is in a State of Emergency.

Late Friday morning, Police Chief Glenn Miller announced on the college's Facebook page that the school will be shutting down its campus for the duration of the storm.

At noon on Friday, Aug. 26, the college is asking all student residents to return home, and as of noon on Saturday, Aug. 27, all main buildings will close and will not be accessible to staff and students.

A small group of resident students will remain on campus and will be housed with professional staff in the Campus Center for the duration of the storm.

Stockton's Emergency Operation Center will be activated at the campus police station on Saturday, Aug. 27 for the duration of the storm. Essential personnel will be on site and will continue to update the college community as to the status of the campus and any changes in next week's schedule.

Many Galloway Township businesses are closing and events are being canceled. As updated frequently on Galloway Patch since Thursday, Aug. 25:

* a scheduled tour by state Sen. Christopher Connors and Assemblyman Brian Rumpf and Assemblywoman DiAnne Gove of scheduled for Monday morning has been canceled and will be rescheduled for a later date;

* all businesses in are closed on Sunday, Aug. 28, and will reopen on Monday, Aug. 29;

* closes today, Aug. 26, at noon and will reopen Monday at 6 a.m.;

* Galloway Township Summer Camp has been canceled for today;

* tonight's screening of Jurassic Park as part of Galloway Township's "Movie Night" at Patriot Lake series has been canceled;

* the Meet and Greet with Democratic candidates for Galloway Council at McGettigan's has been postponed from Sunday night, Aug. 28 at 5 p.m. to Monday night, Aug. 29 at the same time; and

* the second day of the at Renault Winery in Egg Harbor City has been postponed until Sept. 11, from noon-4 p.m., but the first day, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 27, is still on at this time.

The Galloway Township Athletic Association's , scheduled for tonight, Aug. 26, at Gabriel Field is still on at this point. Doors are scheduled to open at 4:30.
