The New Jersey Turnpike Authority for two full interchanges in Galloway Township on Monday at the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.
The plans call for a full interchange on Jimmie Leeds Road near the Atlantic City rest stop, but the plans would cut off driver access to the rest stop, allowing only for emergency vehicles. A New Jersey State Police barracks will also be built at the location.
Another full interchange would be constructed on Pomona Road near Moss Mill Road.
New Jersey Turnpike Authority officials have said the plan will make driving to and from the Parkway safer and that rest stops are not meant to be used as interchanges.
Some residents have called for a , saying that it would be a boon for local business and that the White Horse Pike, being a highway, could better accomodate the full interchange.
Others have expressed concerns about the potential viability and costs of a full interchange on Route 30, including Atlantic County Freeholder Alex Marino, who said that wetlands would have to be considered and that construction of a full interchange might not be possible because of the buildings already lining the White Horse Pike.
