Power Almost Completely Restored in Atlantic County as Coastal Flood Warning Remains In Effect

Massive power outages that plagued Atlantic County on Wednesday have all but disappeared as the Coastal Flood Warning was extended through Friday morning.

According to Atlantic City Electric, 194 customers in Atlantic City remained without power Thursday morning, March 7. This was down from over 2,000 on Wednesday night. The barrier islands of Margate, Longport and Ventnor, which at one time recorded 19,000 outages due to two transmission lines being knocked out of commission, were showing a total of about 21 customers without power.

In Brigantine, there were still about six customers, and Absecon and Galloway were showing less than five each. Customers lost power on Wednesday due to strong winds impact utility poles and power lines.

The High Wind Advisory expired at 5 a.m. Thursday morning.

A Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect through 9 a.m. Friday. The next high tide takes place in Atlantic City at 3:54 p.m., with a forecast tide level of between 6.5 and 7 feet, according to the National Weather Service out of Mount Holly.

High tide is then expected at 4:22 a.m. Friday morning with a forecast level of about 7 feet.

Absecon Police are reporting that South Shore Road between California Avenue and the White Horse Pike remains closed due to flooding, and that both directions of the White Horse Pike have water on the road between Home Depot and the Delilah Road Overpass. Route 9 South has water on the road between Meadowview and Ohio avenues.

Roads are passable, but drivers should use extreme caution when using the both roadways, police said.

Scattered rain and snow is expected Thursday morning before 10 a.m., followed by a slight chance of rain. Rain is then expected before 9 p.m., followed by a possible mix of snow and rain, and a chance of snow after 1 a.m.

Winds are expected to remain between 21 and 26 miles an hour, with expected wind gusts of 38 miles an hour for much of the next two days.

The pattern continues through Friday, with things beginning to clear and the wind slowing down Friday night. Sunshine is expected on Saturday.
