Sandy Makes Landfall as a Tropical Storm in Atlantic City

The tropical storm made landfall at 8 p.m.

Sandy made landfall at 8 p.m. as a tropical storm in Atlantic City, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Maximum sustained winds are 80 miles an hour, the NWS is reporting.

According to the NWS, storm surge heights of 11.9 feet at Kings Point, New York; 8.4 feet at the battery New York; and 8.6 feet at Sandy Hook, New Jersey.

Landfall coincided with high tide, creating a storm surge of 8.9 feet.

With landfall, the NWS issued a high wind warning until Tuesday morning, Oct. 30 for Atlantic County; Atlantic Coastal Cape May; Camden County; Cape May County; Coastal Atlantic; Coastal Ocean; Cumberland County; Eastern Monmouth County; Gloucester County; Northwestern Burlington County; Ocean County; Salem County; Southeastern Burlington County; and Western Monmouth County.

The NWS issued a coastal flood warning until midnight for Atlantic County; Atlantic Coastal Cape May; Cape May County; Coastal Atlantic; Coastal Ocean; Cumberland County; Eastern Monmouth; Middlesex County; Ocean County; Southeastern Burlington; and Western Monmouth County.

A flood warning remains in effect until 2:30 a.m. for Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland and Salem counties.

Finally, a flood watch remains in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday night, Oct. 30 for Atlantic County; Atlantic Coastal Cape May; Camden County; Cape May County; Coastal Atlantic; Coastal Ocean; Cumberland County; Eastern Monmouth; Gloucester County; Hunterdon County; Mercer County; Middlesex County; Morris County; Northwestern Burlington; Ocean County; Salem County; Somerset County; Southeastern Burlington; Sussex County; Warren County; and Western Monmouth County.
