Severe Thunderstorm Warning Over

Township Announces Full Services Will Be Available, County Offices Will Open Monday

The National Weather Service out of Mount Holly issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning late Sunday night, and canceled it shortly thereafter.

The warning was to be in effect from 9:58-11 p.m. Sunday night, July 1, for South Central Atlantic County and Northern Cape May County.

It was located near Corbin City, or 17 miles southeast of Millville, and was moving east at 30 miles an hour.

It was projected to be near Ocean City, Strathmere, Marmora, Beesley's Point, Seaville, Somers Point and south of Longport at various points by 10:15.

The warning came two days after a derecho, featuring winds of over 70 miles an hour, hit the Mid-Atlantic Region overnight on Friday, leaving many without power over the weekend, and possibly through the end of the week.

Galloway Township and the County also made the following announcements via Facebook over the last few hours:

* Galloway Township announced via Facebook that full services will be available on Monday, July 2, and that clean up efforts would resume once the electric company clears lines from trees.

* On Sunday night, July 1, the Atlantic County Office of Emergency Preparedness announced that most cooling centers would be closing, stating that only the one at Galloway Township Middle School would remain open all day and night.

* The county also announced that the County Office Building in Atlantic City, Meadowview Nursing Home, the Animal Shelter, the Hammonton satellite, the Public Works building, and the offices of Planning and Engineering would be opened on Monday to provide residents with services.

* The county said several branches of the Atlantic County Library System would be opened, including Brigantine, Egg Harbor City, Galloway, Hammonton, Pleasantville and Ventnor.

* It said the Atlantic County Justice Facility, Youth Shelter, Central Kitchen, Commodities Warehouse and Facilities Management offices will also be open.

* Mail will be delivered to residents' homes, but the county's senior centers will not be open, the county said. The county said Dialysis patients will be transported as normal, but no reservations for transportation can be made due to phone outages throughout the county.

* It said there are no travel restrictions in place at the moment.
