VIEWFINDER: Brigantine After Sandy

Here's what Brigantine looked like once travel restrictions to the island were lifted on Thursday.

Travel restrictions to three barrier islands in Atlantic County and eight in Cape May County were lifted on Thursday, Nov. 1. Travel had been restricted due to damage done by Tropical Storm Sandy earlier this week.

The barrier islands in Atlantic County that were opened were Brigantine, Longport and Margate. Atlantic City and Ventnor remained closed until further notice.

A pedestrian curfew is still in effect for Brigantine, Longport and Margate between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. until further notice.

Throughout the island, many structures remained intact, including most of the homes. Many were still without power, but Atlantic City Electric customers on the island were expected to have power fully restored by the end of the weekend.

The streets were mostly dry, although there were still some signs of flooding, and the beach was suffering from erosion.
