UPDATED: Wind Advisory in Effect for Tuesday, Thunderstorms Possible

The advisory is in effect from noon-midnight.

The promising start to the week looks to turn to strong winds and thunderstorms on Tuesday, Sept. 18, the National Weather Service (NWS) out of Mount Holly warned Monday afternoon.

The weather service issued a wind advisory to be in effect from noon-midnight on Tuesday. The advisory is in effect for 20 counties in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, including Atlantic, Ocean and Burlington counties.

At 5:23 Tuesday morning, Sept. 18, the NWS added a high rip tide risk for 8 a.m. through Tuesday evening, and a coastal flood advisory from 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon through 6 p.m. Wednesday evening.

The wind advisory warns of sustained winds of 25 to 30 mph with gusts of 50 mph possible near the coast. The wind speeds are expected to increase on Tuesday afternoon and continue on Tuesday evening, diminishing only late on Tuesday night following the passage of a cold front. The advisory suggest that winds could possibly bring down tree limbs and utility lines, knock over outdoor furniture and make driving difficult.

Additionally, the NWS warns that some strong thunderstorms are possible. The region is under a slight risk of severe weather late Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night.
