Republicans Win Four Seats on Township Council

The win gives the party all but one seat on Galloway Township Council.

The Republican slate swept all four seats at stake in the Township Council election on Tuesday.

Galloway Township voters elected Frank Gargione (4,528 votes), Robert Maldonado (4,445), Timothy C. Meadows Sr. (4,439) and incumbent Mayor Don Purdy (4,132), according to preliminary election results.

The victory gives Republicans a 6-1 advantage on the seven-member council.

Incumbent Democrat Jim McElwee (3,986 votes) was defeated along with running mates Bill Montag (3,935), Mike Suleiman (3,770) and Cliff Sudler (3,742).

Republican incumbents Tom Bassford and Whitney Ullman did not seek re-election to four-year terms. Jim Gorman remains the only Democrat on council.
