Author Laury A. Egan Reading / South Jersey Humanists

Humanist author Laury A. Egan will read and sign copies of her novel, "The Outcast Oracle," at River Road Books on Thurs., Jan. 23, at 7:00 pm. The book was included in Kirkus Review's "Best Books of 2013" and was called "Simply delicious fun from start to finish." Event is open to the public.  Ms. Egan will discuss the book and its Humanist themes.

Set in 1959, near New York’s Lake Ontario, Charlene Whitestone has been deserted by her parents and left in the custody of her grandfather C.B. Although he loves Charlie, C.B. is a charming con artist, moonshiner, and religious fraud who inducts her into his various enterprises. Written in a satiric Mark Twain style, The Outcast Oracle is a great read for adults and teenagers.

South Jersey Humanists formed in the Spring of 2010 as a social and educational organization for people who share a common interest in the values of Humanism. Humanism is the idea that people can be "good without god."
