A Concert of Dance

Philadanco’s Lauren Putty White will be a guest choreographer creating a new work for the Stockton Dance Company’s “A Concert of Dance.”  

Annually, Stockton dance students and faculty join forces with guest choreographers to perform “A Concert of Dance,” which features a diverse variety of contemporary and modern dance works.  This year’s show opens Thursday, February 28, in the Stockton Performing Arts Center on the Galloway campus at 7:30 p.m. with performances at the same time on Friday, March 1, and Saturday, March 2, and a final show on Sunday, March 3, at 3 p.m.

The Stockton Dance Company will perform two guest works, five faculty works and one student choreographed work.  “You don’t have to go to Philly to see a great concert of dance,” said Rain Ross, assistant professor of dance at Stockton.    

Lauren Putty White, Philadanco company member, has created an intense work on the Stockton Dance Company, which will leave the audience with a sense of fulfillment in seeing such physicality onstage. 

“The training and expertise that Lauren brings to the Stockton Dance Company is invaluable and will increase the students’ abilities as dancers. She is also connecting them with a much broader dance community,” said Ross.  

The experience has been exciting for the students as well as Putty White. “Working with Stockton students is always a pleasure. They come to the studio with an open mind and a willingness to grow and meet the vision of the choreographer," she said.                    

Beau Hancock, an independent choreographer, will bring a post-modern look to the classical modern dance forms, giving the audience a beautiful movement landscape that leaves one pondering.  He has performed his works in New York, Philadelphia and Poland.

Returning with new works are the resident faculty members at Stockton College.  Henry van Kuiken, professor of dance, will intrigue his audience with abstract narrative stories and his fantastical elements.  Rain Ross takes us through a whirlwind upside down tour with the music of Patsy Cline.  She also presents a second work of pure sculptural intent, showing the physicality and training of the performers.  And no show would be complete without the show stopping jazz work of Andrea Mychaels, adjunct professor.
