Minister discusses struggle for LGBT rights in Uganda

Rev.
Mark Kiyimba, a Unitarian Universalist minister and LGBT rights activist from
Uganda, will discuss the 2014 Anti-Homosexuality Act and widespread homophobia
in his home country at a free public meeting on Thursday, July 24 at 7 p.m. and
during Sunday service on July 27th at 10 a.m., both at the Unitarian
Universalist Congregation of the South Jersey Shore, 75 S. Pomona Road at
Liebig Street.

Rev. Kiyimba leads the
Unitarian Universalist Church of Kampala,
Uganda. The church runs a school
for 650 children who have lost parents to HIV/AIDS and an orphanage for 22
children infected with the virus.
Rev. Kiyimba is the target of hundreds of death threats at home for his vocal opposition to Uganda’s anti-homosexuality law, which
makes homosexuality punishable by up to life imprisonment and even seeks
punishment for those who fail to report another’s homosexuality. Rev. Kiyimba is
traveling the US to raise awareness about this state persecution of LGBT
people, their families and their allies.
