According to philly.com, residents are receiving letters saying they qualified for receive assistance in having their homes elevated, but there is currently no money. The letter further tells them not to do anything else because they are on the list.
Not doing anything invites higher insurance premiums and the danger of future flooding.
Brigantine was among the five barrier islands told to
evacuate in the days prior to Sandy hitting the coast on Oct. 29, 2012.
It was the site of a visit by President Barack Obama and Gov. Chris Christie in the days following the storm.
The island is recovering, and was the first to be approved for reimbursement funds by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
However, there are still plenty of problems facing those with property on the island.
