The Atlantic City Boat Show, coming to the Atlantic City Convention Center, Feb. 1-5, 2012, will feature a number of family friendly activities.

Yes, you read right. The Atlantic City Boat Show, coming to the Atlantic City Convention Center, Feb. 1-5, 2012, will feature a number of family friendly activities.

I know it may be hard to believe that among hundreds of boats, your kids could have fun, but just look at what they have planned.

Drive a boat (virtually)

Visitors can take the helm and experience sea conditions of their choice, wild or rough, at the interactive Boating Simulator, at the Annapolis School of Seamanship exhibit. The kids and you can even see how you are doing on 3 giant flat screens.

Meet the youngest, most famous of all teenage sailing adventurers, Abby Sunderland

At 16, Abby Sunderland set out to become the youngest solo sailor ever to circle the globe. Abby will talk about how her training and faith saved her life when her course was thrown off track by a rogue wave that left her lost at sea for two days.

Try Out Scuba Diving

Guests, ages 10 and older, can try on a suit and experience the water as a scuba diver in the DEMA "Be a Diver Pool." You'll also get a photo taken of your underwater diving adventure.

Remote Control Power Boat Docking Challenge

Beginners and veterans will enjoy the Remote Control Boat Docking Challenge.

See the Miss GEICO Race Boat

Visitors to the Progressive Insurance Atlantic City Boat Show will have the chance to see four-time World Champion, famous offshore powerboat Miss GEICO.

Paddlepalooza

An area to help you and the kids learn more about paddle sports, such as:

  • the latest paddle techniques;
  • information on land paddling;
  • board education;
  • stroke techniques; and
  • fitness paddling classes.

For the Little Skippers

Even the littlest of kids can get in on the fun at the Atlantic City Boat show. They can:

  • navigate a mini lake from their own paddle boat;
  • on Saturday, pose for photos with SpongeBob Squarepants, Bikini Bottom’s favorite resident;
  • build A boat with Sea Quest Kids;
  • get a chance to build a life-size boat with their own hands; and
  • learn about boating and water safety.

The Atlantic City Boat Show is free for children under 15 (when accompanied by a paid adult). Adults are $14. Take NJ Transit from the Absecon Train Station and you'll save on parking. Plus NJ Transit offers great fares for the kids.

Children ages 5-11 save at least 50 percent at all times. In addition, up to three kids 4-and-under can ride free with a passenger paying any valid fare.

Family Supersaver Fares : On weekends and holidays, up to two kids ages 5-11 can ride free with a passenger paying any valid fare. In effect from 7 p.m. Friday (or the day before a holiday) until 6 a.m. Monday (or the day after a holiday).
