Coast Guard Treats Man For Decompression Sickness Near Cape May

The man was taken to the hospital at the University of Pennsylvania for further medical evaluation.

A 50-year-old man was medevaced off the coast of Cape May after experiencing symptoms of decompression sickness while diving off a research boat Saturday afternoon, the Coast Guard announced.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay in Philadelphia received the report at approximately 4:45 p.m. from a person aboard the boat. The boat was 23 miles off the coast.

A 45-foot Response Boat - Medium from Coast Guard Station Cape May arrived on scene and transferred the man aboard their boat. The man was transported back to the station and transferred to awaiting emergency medical personnel.

The man is reported to be responsive and was transported to the Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania for further medical evaluation.
