Egg Harbor City Mayor, Police Captain Thank Galloway Police For Help in Capturing Juveniles on New Year's Eve

Mark D'Esposito and K-9 Zito were involved in the capture of two of the escapees.

Egg Harbor City Mayor Lisa Jiampetti and Police Captain Richard Kramer were on hand Tuesday night to thank Galloway Township Police who were involved in helping to capture a pair of juveniles who escaped from Harborfields Juvenile Detention Center on New Year’s Eve.

K-9 Officer Mark D’Esposito, who has since been promoted to sergeant, and his partner Zito helped capture two of the five escapees on Dec. 31 of last year.  They had escaped from Harborfields in Egg Harbor City and made their way into Galloway Township, where Galloway’s Police Department was called in to assist.

The search in the township lasted about two hours, and also involved Richard Stockton College of New Jersey Police.  The escapees returned to Egg Harbor City before four of the five were apprehended.

On Tuesday night, Jiampetti and Kramer presented Police Chief Patrick Moran with a certificate showing their appreciation for the police department’s assistance.

“Chief Moran promptly responded,” Jiampetti said.

“Without hesitation, they came right away,” Kramer said.

Mayor Don Purdy spoke about the joint services Galloway and Egg Harbor City share.

“Egg Harbor City is always there to back up our police department,” Purdy said. “It’s a great bond we have with Egg Harbor City, and Mullica and Stockton College, especially in times like this when our forces are down. It’s something people don’t know about, but it happens and it needs to go recognized.”

“Egg Harbor City is always there for us,” Moran said. “ … We responded, and our officers stayed there until we got the job done because we knew how important it was.”
