Family of Cedar Creek Student Files Lawsuit Against Police, School: Report

The family filed a lawsuit against police, the school district and the prosecutor, according to The Press of Atlantic City.

The family of a Cedar Creek High School student who was arrested after a teacher observed hand drawn pictures of weapons in their notebook has filed a lawsuit in connection with the arrest, The Press of Atlantic City reports.

The student was apprehended by police and banned from school for 14 months. His family has filed a lawsuit against the Galloway Police Department, the Greater Egg Harbor Regional School District and the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office, among other officials, according to the report.

Police responded to the teacher's concerns on Dec. 18, 2012, just days after the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

Police then searched the student's home and found what they called " uncovered electronic parts and chemicals that, when mixed together, could cause an explosion."
