Galloway Man Charged With Illegal Gun Trafficking

Jared M. Horton, 26, was charged with illegal possession of a shotgun, and selling a firearm without being licensed or registered to do so.

A Galloway Township man has been charged in connection with an illegal gun trafficking ring, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced Friday afternoon.

Jared M. Horton, 26, of the 100 Block of East Boundary Avenue in Galloway Township, was charged with illegal possession of a shotgun, and selling a firearm without being licensed or registered to do so.

The charges came following a five-month-long investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Unit and the Galloway Township Police Department.

Horton was arrested on April 15 and lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility in lieu of $100,000.00 cash bail.

The charge of illegal possession of a shotgun is a third degree crime, with a potential penalty of between three and five years in State prison. Selling a firearm without being licensed to do so is a crime of the fourth degree, punishable by a term of imprisonment not to exceed 18 months.

Not surprised at all. That section of the township is infested with drug and weapon dealing/trafficking. Kudos to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office for taking the lead on this!

Pls someone explain to me why if they are known areas, isn't that half the battle? Knowing where crime is? I see it referenced all the time. Surely these are small enough areas to eradicate the problem. It's not like we are living in NYC. Is it because police are afraid of retaliation to their homes or families if they're move aggressive? I can't say I'd blame them, particularly w/ all these guns around. Does Galloway have a undercover team or do we use State Police. I'm really perplexed by this bc I drive around a certain area sometimes and think geez, it's not really all that big, what's the problem here? Also, I see college kids riding bikes, or driving too. So, what is needed (realistically) to do to get area cleaned up?
