Galloway Police Arrest Man With Weapon Near The Shoppes

He had a .40 caliber handgun. The arrest took place Saturday afternoon.

Galloway Township Police arrested a man on gun charges following a foot chase near The Shoppes of Galloway Saturday afternoon, police announced Sunday morning, Dec. 23.

Zhavari Sheppard, 23, of Galloway Township, was arrested at the intersection of Collins and Federal roads, and charged with possession of a weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon, resisting arrest and obstruction of justice, police said.

The arrest took place after police responded to reports of a man who was carrying a weapon in the area of The Shoppes, according to police. Officer Gary Brenner arrived on the scene and approached Sheppard, who matched the description of the suspect, police said.

Sheppard fled on foot in the direction of Federal Court, according to police. Officer Weigle arrived to aid in the chase, and the two were able to capture Sheppard at the intersection of Collins and Federal roads, police said.

A .40 caliber handgun was discovered in a stairwell nearby, police said.

Sheppard was lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility in lieu of $150,000 cash bail.
