New Jersey Police Chief Association Celebrates 100th Anniversary

The New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police will hold their 100th annual training conference from June 26 to 27 at the Atlantic City Convention Center and Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City.

The conference will be host to a variety of training and educational sessions. This year, the conference will end with a formal banquet celebrating it’s centennial and induct the organization’s president and executive board for 2012-2013.

The chief's association has played a vital role in NJ law enforcement.

“Right from the start, the NJ Chiefs made professionalism and training key priorities for the association,” said NJSACOP Executive Director Mitchell C. Sklar.

The association offers a command and leadership academy, an annual executive institute, supervision schools, as well as a wide variety of other professional development programs.

“We are always on the lookout for the best ideas, the best presenters, the best policing practices,” Sklar said. “We’ve brought in instructors from around the country and have reached out to international partners as well. [But] just because on occasion we look beyond our boarders does not mean that we neglect what we have right here in NJ. I can tell you NJ’s police and their chiefs are held in the highest esteem.”

Resisting the temptation to schedule the conference around this year’s milestone, primary training and education programs will be devoted to officer safety, said South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayduca.

“In the end, we know what’s most important. Having officers go home to their loved ones at the end of their tour of duty is at the top of the list,” he said.
