She remains in custody on $1.5 million cash bail, according to McClain.

According to McClain, Pelzer approached the two as they were walking down the 1900 block of Pacific Avenue on May 21 of this year, and allegedly attempted to rob them. She then stabbed them multiple times each with a 12-inch butcher knife, McClain said.

An Atlantic City Police Officer who was on patrol at the time witnessed the stabbing, and immediately intervened, McClain said. The officer placed Pelzer under arrest, and the victims were transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, McClain said.

Leung suffered from stab wounds to her upper body, and her death was caused by multiple sharp force injuries and cardiac puncture, according to autopsy reports, McClain said.

Wan was reportedly stabbed in the lower body, hand and shoulder, McClain said. According to McClain, she was stabbed while she was attempting to save her daughter. She died of multiple sharp force injuries with exsanguination, McClain said.

Once the victims were later pronounced dead, the charges against Pelzer were upgraded to include two counts of murder, McClain said.
